Reiner Knizia is a renowned and prolific board game designer, responsible for creating many well-loved and popular gaming franchises.
Reiner's games have also won numerous prestigious awards, such as the Games 100, International Gamers Awards, Mensa Mind Games, and the Spiel des Jahres.
Reiner is most associated with German-style board games (simple rules, quick play, strategic), and over 500 of his games and books have been published to date. The following are just a few of his best:
- Callisto
Once in a while a board game arrives that combines complete simplicity with brilliant game design. Welcome to Callisto, a seriously satisfying and undeniably simple game to learn but it's a game that uses strategic skills and a little luck to master. The object of the game is to be the player who successfully places the most tiles on the board; tiles must always be placed next to another tile of the same color. While placing your tiles you not only want to cover the most ground so you gain points, but you'll want to block the others from doing so too! - Cthulhu Rising
The courageous Investigators are involved in an epic conflict, against the Cultists (who are once again attempting to awaken their dark lord Cthulhu). If the Cultists succeed, Cthulhu will arise from his aqueous sleep and cause unprecedented havoc! You will assume the role of either an Investigator, or Cultist, and battle it out with this two player tile game. Where do your loyalties lie? - Gravediggers
Although being a gravedigger in a small town keeps you busy, the job doesn't pay well, it's incredibly dirty, and worst of all, it's REALLY boring! For excitement, and as an extra source of income, you've decided to start a contest with your fellow gravediggers. Each digger has one week to "borrow" as many valuables from their clients as possible. Any cemetery is fair game and the gravedigger that has collected the most stuff at the end wins. And why not? They can't take it with them! Gravediggers is an easy and fun bidding game created by the award-winning game designer, Reiner Knizia. - High Society
It is one thing to be the richest family on the block... it's quite another to flaunt it successfully. Reiner Knizia's classic High Society pits 3-5 neighbors against each other in a race to reveal the most blue-blooded family. To win, you must acquire the trappings of great wealth, avoid fiscal pitfalls and still walk away with more cash than at least one of your fellow barons. - Masters Gallery
Do you have an eye for great art? Find out in Masters Gallery where you will buy, sell, and ultimately influence the values of great masterpieces created by the world's finest Old World artists. The game cards in Masters Gallery feature 30 famous works of art painted by Jan Vermeer, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Vincent Van Gogh. Players of the game are at the same time art critics and gallery owners whose goal is to make a profit in both roles over the course of four rounds. Masters Gallery was designed by master game creator Reiner Knizia and has the same gameplay as Modern Art: The Card Game. - Scary Tales: Little Red vs Pinocchio
In Scary Tales: Little Red vs Pinocchio, Little Red Riding Hood has become a girl scorned on a mission to prove she can rule the land. Pinocchio's lies have gained him much in "life", and he means to sit on the throne where no one dares pull his strings! With the help of these two combatant's companions, the Woodsman and the Cricket, each of them will be tough to beat. Who will rule the kingdom by collecting enough precious relics from their rival? Some well played cards and luckily rolled dice will decide victory. Your opponent awaits in Scary Tales: Little Red vs Pinocchio! Each Scary Tales set plays in about 20 minutes and features two challengers, for a two-player game. Combine sets to bring more characters and players to the battle! - Scary Tales: Snow White vs The Giant
The king has died leaving no heir. Snow White (no longer her sweet, lovable, apple-eating self) and the Giant both want the throne and now its time to throw down! The mighty Giant has great strength with which to crush his foes. But Snow White is packin' some sly tricks and a group of enforcers known as the Seven Dwarfs. Who will rule the kingdom by collecting enough precious relics from their rival? Some well played cards and luckily rolled dice will decide victory. Your opponent awaits in Scary Tales: Snow White vs The Giant! Each Scary Tales set plays in about 20 minutes and features two challengers, for a two-player game. Combine sets to bring more characters and players to the battle! - Tigris & Euphrates: Contest of Kings
In Mesopotamia, between the Euphrates & Tigris rivers, lies the cradle of civilization. Farmers cultivate the land, traders sell their wares, and priests offer the masses their religious support. As kings seek to lead their dynasties to fame and power, conflicts are unavoidable and only the most clever and successful king will emerge as the winner! This is a card game version of the classic 'Tigris & Euphrates' board game.
